I finally got around to replacing the old LED strips under our kitchen cabinets.The old ones worked fine, but from across the room you could see every individual LED reflecting off the countertop. It always bothered me more than I thought it would.I went with the 8mm warm white COB strip this time and the difference is pretty noticeable. The light looks much more like one continuous line instead of a row of dots.I reused most of the wiring from the old setup, so the actual strip installation didn’t take very long. The most annoying part was cleaning off the old adhesive.We’ve had it installed for several months now and I’m happy with the change.

Thanks for sharing the project.The standard 8mm COB range is available in 320 / 480 LEDs per meter, while selected models also offer higher-density options. The closely spaced COB light source is designed to create a more continuous appearance than traditional widely spaced SMD strips.

I only have a 6mm-wide slot — will the 5mm COB strip work?
I’m adding lights to some floating shelves that already have a narrow routed groove underneath.The opening is only a little over 6mm wide, so most of the LED strips I’ve looked at won’t fit.I saw the 5mm COB version and it looks like it might solve the problem. Is the actual PCB really 5mm wide, or does the finished strip end up wider than that?

I need around 20 feet of warm white COB strip for cabinets and shelves.I’m trying to decide between 320 and 480 LEDs/m. I understand 480 is denser, but because COB already looks pretty continuous, I’m wondering whether the difference is actually noticeable once it’s installed.This will mostly be indirect lighting rather than something I’m staring at directly.

For indirect cabinet and shelf lighting, 320 LEDs/m may already provide the smooth appearance you’re looking for.The 480 LEDs/m version increases LED density and can be useful when the strip itself is more visible or when you want a denser light source.The final result also depends on mounting distance, diffuser use and how close the strip is to the illuminated surface.LightingWill’s 8mm COB range currently includes both 320 and 480 LEDs/m options.
